A great family run business- Angel’s Cakes!

This week, I was lucky enough to be given a box of delicious cakes from Angel’s Cakes to review. It’s always nice to be given cakes and I couldn’t wait to rip into the box and try them.

I had four cupcakes in the box and each was beautifully decorated with sweet swirly butter icing. My favourite one had lovely bright yellow lemon flavour icing. I was also particularly impressed with the Oreo cookie cake which had half an Oreo to decorate and an Oreo cookie embedded into the base of the cake too. I thought this was a very original idea.

The cakes were well made. They were moist and flavoursome and not too heavy. The icing was very good although there was a lot of it on each cake. They most certainly are not for you if you’re on a diet! I think Angel’s Cakes are very aptly named as they have a distinct style. Pinks and yellows feature frequently as do little sugar flowers and sparkly dust. The designs are very pretty and delicate.

Family run Angel’s Cakes is relatively new, only established in March this year. They are doing very well though and already supply cakes to the North Star, the Vulcan Lounge and the Mocha Lounge and are looking to supply more. They have a monthly stall at an indoor market in The Windsor Arms in Penarth, and this Sunday they will be at Gwdihw’s Sundown Market for the first time so check them out! Angel’s Cakes also make wedding cakes and party cakes for all occasions.

Angel’s Cakes ambition for the future is to open a quaint boutique ‘coffee and a cupcake’ shop in Cardiff city centre. If their success in the last few months is anything to go by, hopefully they will be able to raise the capital to get things started!

Have a look at Angel’s Cakes website for more details and examples of the cakes on offer.

My last mouthful was: The cupcake with lemon buttercream icing
