I have an announcement to make…………….

http://www.yourlastmouthful.com is officially launching on February 7th 2012!!!

Those of you who are familiar with my blog will know that I have been planning to launch the website for sometime now and the time is finally here so I am very excited!

Continuing along the same vein as the blog, I am still going to review food businesses in Cardiff and give them a spoon rating. You will be able to read all of the reviews but those who receive a green spoon overall will be included in a special ‘green spoon’ directory. This will be your one stop shop for finding the best eating establishments and products.

The website will also have a regular ‘Deal of the week’ which will be exclusive to yourlastmouthful.com, regular competitions and you will be able to read about news and events.

To celebrate the launch, there will be a launch party at The Parkhouse Club! Later this week I will be giving away tickets to Cardiff foodies so watch this space!

Thanks everyone for your support and I hope you continue to follow me and read my posts.

Foodie New Years Resolutions!

I’m a bit sad to say goodbye to 2011, it’s been a really good year for me in terms of food. I have been to some amazing places and eaten some outstanding food both in Cardiff and further afield.

I’m not one to make New Year’s Resolutions but with Your last Mouthful set to officially launch in February, I’m going to be doing a serious amount of eating and I’m very excited! To make sure that 2012 is a success and I make the most of it, I decided now would be a good time to start planning. With that in mind, here are my 5 Foodie New Years Resolutions!

1. Keep up my Foodie To Do List.

I started my Foodie To Do List in 2011. The aim was to list the top 5 places I would like to eat in Cardiff and the surrounding area and as I did, tick them off and add a new one. I was so lucky in 2011 as I was invited to eat at so many places that my list went to pot a bit. This year, I am going to make sure I upkeep it and visit that places listed that I am dying to try. Recommendations welcome!

2. Friday night is feast night!

I love cooking and so does my husband Mr.V. Unfortunately, we are very busy people and although we always cook, (unless we are lucky enough to be eating out) during the week it usually has to be something quick. We both love to spend hours slaving over a good meal so I declare Friday night- Feast Night! Every Friday, we will make sure we cook a stonker of a meal together. Seeing as we do have a life, this might not always be Friday night and it might not always be possible but we will aim to do it at least once a week.

3. Eat myself thin!

Obviously all this eating can take its toll so I try to exercise regularly to make sure I can still do up my jeans! I have generally been going to the gym or a gym class three times a week so I am going to make sure this continues into 2012 so I can continue filling my face without altering my waistline!

4. Eat more fish

I have developed a real love for fish recently and I want to make sure I eat more of it both and at home and when I eat out. I love the lightness  and freshness of fish and there are so many I just haven’t tried! I want to eat some unusual fish cooked in some unique ways in 2012.

5. Choose something different

Everyone has their favourites that they tend to gravitate towards on a menu. In 2012, I am going to try to pick the dish that I wouldn’t usually go for. There really isn’t anything I don’t like so there is no reason for me to always go for what I think is my favourite. Variety is the key!

I’ll let you know how I get on. Feel free to share your resolutions with me too.

Foodie ‘to do’ list page

With so much choice when it comes to food in Cardiff, I am forever hearing about places to try but I just never get round them all! With this in mind I have decided to create a list of the top 5 restaurants/cafes/food makers I would like to try in Cardiff and the surrounding area.

As I do, I’ll cross them off  and then add my next one. This will be displayed as a page on my blog so you can follow my progress and offer me any recommendations.

  • Canteen on Clifton Street– This has been on my list since the beginning of time and I STILL haven’t been there!
  • Bully’s– Lots of people have recommended Bully’s to me and I am dying to try it out
  • Elm Tree Foods– I need to try these pies! They look amazing
  • .CN- There has been such a buzz about this place, I have high hopes!
  • The Cricketers– Sunday lunch looks lovely!

Food Bloggers Christmas Party!

Earlier this week on Twitter I suggested that we should have a Cardiff Food Bloggers Christmas party and I got a good response so I thought it would be a good idea to create something to sign up.

If you’re interested in coming along let me know so we have an idea of numbers and then we can start looking at dates and a venue.

If you’re a restaurant in Cardiff or the surrounding  area and you would like to host us, please comment and let us know! We have already had a few offers from bear Hotel,  Coed-Y- Mwstwr, Bunch of grapes and White Heart Inn.

Market Research

As you know, Your Last Mouthful is changing. A new website will be launched very soon that will run alongside the blog, promoting the best food businesses in Cardiff.

In order for me to make sure that it includes everything both customers and businesses are looking for, I am conducting some market research.

Thanks to everyone who has already completed a short questionnaire for me. If you haven’t yet completed it and wouldn’t mind sparing 5 minutes of your time, I will be extremely grateful! They will be live until the end of this week.

If you’re a food business please help me by completing this short business questionnaire

If you’re a member of the public, please help me by completing this short customer questionnaire

Cupcake Week kicks off on Monday 12th!

Cupcake week starts on Monday 12th September!

To mark this annual event, I have a week of cupcake related features for you. In the build up to Cupcake Week, I have been tasting all sorts of delicious cupcakes from local companies (can’t complain!) and now that I am full to bursting, I will be posting reviews of those I have tried.

As well as reviews, I have a Guest Blogger, a feature on a personal cake related experience, some recipes and a directory of cupcake businesses in the area.

So bake yourself some cupcakes and have a read, or better still make yourself a cuppa and order some cakes from the company you like the best after reading my reviews!

Cupcake week coming soon! Calling Cardiff cupcake makers!

I LOVE cupcakes! Who doesn’t? The flavours and designs are endless. Like little sugary works of art and what is better than art that you can eat?!

For those of you who agree, you will be excited to know that 12th-18th September is National Cupcake Week! A whole week were it is perfectly acceptable to over-indulge in these little sweet treats.

To mark this fantastic week, I will be celebrating by giving you 7 days of cupcake news and fun. Expect reviews of local cupcake businesses, recipes, features, info on cupcake providers in Cardiff and maybe even a competition or two.

If you are a local cupcake business and would like to get involved, please contact me for more info. I am putting together a directory of all cupcake companies in the area so if you want to be included, I need your name and contact details.
