If you are a professional foodie or just enjoy a spot of baking an opportunity has arisen for you to contribute to a local Welsh charity.
Thrive has been running for 16 years, since 1996, providing access to play to children with disabilities. The lovely Debs from Love Peace and Cupcake has asked me to put out the word to help her friend Sarah from Penarth who is putting together a recipe book filled with contributed recipes from local people.
If you have a great recipe, whether that’s your favourite chocolate cheesecake or your yorkshire pudding top tips, you can contribute. This book will go on sale in South Wales and all profits will go to the charity.
If you would be interested in putting together a recipe…(that’s all you need to do!)…please contact Debs at firstname.lastname@example.org and she can pass your details on to Sarah.

Mr V and I love getting involved in any food challenges and events that come our way so when Sara at Cake Communications asked us to participate in Earth Hour, we took her up on her offer.
I hadn’t heard of Earth Hour before. It is an initiative run by the WWF to encourage people to turn off their lights for just one hour on 31st March between 8.30pm and 9.30pm in order to conserve energy and to make us think about the planet that we all share. The plan is to bring people together during this one hour and encourage as many people as possible to turn off their lights.
This year, the WWF are suggesting that you use this time to get together with family and friends and celebrate the occasion with a candlelit dinner. I think this is a wonderful idea so on Saturday 31st, Mr V and I have invited my family up from Sussex to participate in a candlelit dinner that we will be preparing. We will do this live on the night and tweet photos and updates as we go. It would be amazing if you could do the same and we could all keep in touch with each other’s progress through Twitter on the night.
I should just add at this point, this is the WWF as in the World Wide Fund. It has nothing to do with wrestling, much to my brothers disappointment so he has declined the invitation!
To help people decide what to cook at their candlelit dinners, a host of celebrity chefs have got involved including Bryn Williams who has kindly produced some recipes for people to use. You can read Bryn’s recipes here.
If you’d like to host your own dinner party and join us and many others at in foodie celebration during Earth Hour, you can download a dinner party guide here.
I’ll look forward to seeing your photos and hearing about what you are going to cook!

Have you always wanted to make beautiful cupcakes? Are you as bad as me when it come to decorating them? If so, why not go along to a cake decorating class at LadyBird in aid of the Prince’s Trust?
The class is taking place on Saturday 10th September at 10am at Ladybird Club in Cardiff. The event has been organised by The Prince’s Bounty Fundraising Team from Hugh James Solicitors in Cardiff. This team of 14 from Hugh James and Involegal are rising to the Million Makers challenge, competing against other teams across the UK to turn a small seed funding investment into a profit of at least £10,000 for The Prince’s Trust.
Each team member is giving up their own time to raise funds to support the Princes Trust and the work they do with young people across the UK. Celebrating it’s 35th anniversary this year, the charity has helped more than 650,000 young people overcome challenges such as abuse, depression, addiction and homelessness, with more than three in four moving into work, education or training.
‘The Prince’s Bounty’ team has lots of projects planned over the next six months, from cupcake decorating classes to spa treatments, running the Cardiff half marathon and charity cinema screenings. This culminates in a larger scale masterclass for business professionals in the South Wales area featuring presentations and Q&A sessions with entrepreneurs, Welsh success stories and ambassadors from The Prince’s Trust.
